I’m 42 years old and in a mountain of debt. It’s my fault that I got myself into that situation. I decided to do something: I filed for bankruptcy, my student loans were forgiven (I am not sure about the interest accruing), and I am not setting an excellent example for Zora. Y’all, I need to do better! As a mom, I should not have an empty emergency fund. I should teach Zora how to save money for something she wants, have her emergency fund (we’ll get to that part when she gets older), and be debt-free.
I decided to begin a series of me climbing my way out of debt, which companies I am on a payment plan, how much money I save monthly, and where it’s getting allocated. I am about to relaunch my YouTube channel and post twice a week (one video, one short, for example). As you guessed it, this post is the first in the series. I do not know how long it’s going to take me, but I do know that I want to be debt-free
I began this month by saving my first $13, intending to double that amount with the next paycheck I get from my job. I will add that after I pay the bills that come out in the second half of the month. I would also like to start a savings challenge and return money to a long-depleted emergency fund. At the end of 2025, I want to open up all the challenges I completed and see how much I saved. I will update monthly on how much money I saved and count it.
In the series, I will discuss what led up to my filing for bankruptcy, how I drained my 401k trying to keep up with others, and how I am overcoming my relationship issues with money. I will also speak on what clicked in my brain about saving money consistently and the next steps I’m taking to stick to a budget. I want to get a used car (no car note) and move into a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom house with a finished basement. I will continue to speak and write what I want into existence until it comes true.
I have to get off my laptop and get a video filmed and posted to YouTube. I’ll see you in the next post!
