Day 3 of Blogtober

I am not the biggest fan of the pumpkin spice latte. I don’t get the hype around the famous fall drink. I had a renowned drink at Starbucks and a Dunkin Donuts. I prefer the version from Dunkin Donuts to Starbucks. However, I have had another fall drink from Starbucks that I thought was good. I wonder: where did the pumpkin spice latte originate?

According to Food and Wine, Peter Dukes, the then-director of espresso at Starbucks, and his team developed and created the popular seasonal drinks peppermint mocha and eggnog latte. They poured espresso shots onto pumpkin pies for the pumpkin spice latte to get the right combination of nutmeg and cinnamon in coffee and steamed milk. In 2015, they added real pumpkins instead of using artificial pumpkin flavoring.

I tried the popular drink for the first time in 2015. I was heading to an event and got something to warm me up. I went to Dunkin Donuts and got a small pumpkin spice latte to try. I was amazed by the taste. Later in the week, I tried the Starbucks version, and I wasn’t impressed.

Today, in 2024, my mom bought my daughter a box of mini pumpkin spice muffins. She ate a few of them and loved them. I went to the grocery store and saw everything that was pumpkin spice, even a can of SPAM. It’s a no from me. More power to those who like everything with pumpkin spice.

That’s it for today. I’ll see you tomorrow for Day 4 of Blogtober!
