I’ve been in this apartment for one year, and I have accumulated a lot of stuff, some of which I don’t even need. There’s only one thing to do: declutter the apartment!
I started in the hall closet, where our jackets and coats are located, along with bins of holiday decorations. I pulled out the hoodies and jackets Zora could no longer fit into and placed them in a bag for donating. The winter coats she can wear, I placed them in the trunk of my car to take to the cleaners. The coats and jackets I no longer wear were also placed in the bag, whereas the ones I can wear are also going to the cleaners.
Next, I pulled out everything from the walk-in closet and four-drawer dresser. Clothes Zora and I cannot wear are put in the bag until it’s filled with clothes and shoes. I swept the floor of the closet and found books and other objects I hadn’t decided what to do with them. I placed the objects on the coffee table that sits in the main room. I will sort them out at a later time.
While in the main room, I looked under the bed and pulled out stuffed animals, clothes, and other objects. Placing those to the side, I swept the area rug as much as possible and ran the vacuum over it. I may have to rent a Rug Doctor to give it a thorough cleaning one day. I changed the sheets on the bed and put on fresh ones. There’s nothing like sleeping on fresh linens. All of the dirty clothes, linens, and blankets are in laundry bags, ready to go to the laundromat.
Everything that was declared trash went into the trash outside. I can’t say how many bags of garbage went out, but I lost count after four. Boxes, where I received packages, had the address scratched out, and the tags were taken off and thrown into the shredder at my mom’s home. I tossed those into the recycling bin and kept some to pack up the items I was not currently using.
That’s it for today. Come back tomorrow for the next installment!
